How to make a favicon for your website

  1. Upload a square logo, ideally at least 512×512.
  2. Check the tab preview. Small icons get blurry fast, so simpler designs work better.
  3. Download the ZIP.
  4. Put the files in your site's root folder and paste the HTML snippet into your <head>.

Every icon size your site needs

A favicon is the little icon in the browser tab. Modern sites actually need several sizes of it: tiny ones for tabs, a 180px one for iPhones saved to the home screen, and 192px and 512px ones for Android and web apps.

Upload your logo once and you get all of them: 16, 32, 48, 180, 192 and 512 pixels, as PNGs, zipped up with the HTML tags to paste into your <head>. There's a fake browser tab so you can see how it looks before you download.

Frequently asked questions

Do I still need a favicon.ico?

Modern browsers are happy with PNG favicons, which is what this gives you. Some older tools look for /favicon.ico specifically. This package doesn't include one, so convert the 32px or 48px PNG if you need it.

My logo looks like a smudge at 16px

Very common. Wide logos and thin text don't survive being that small. Try uploading just the symbol or the first letter of your brand instead of the full logo.
